Keeping your wedding as affordable as you can
June 12, 2009
It’s your day. You are marrying. Time to start your excellent life together in debt. Let’s accept it, the bride’s family isn’t necessarily willing ( or able ) to foot the bill for a massive marriage. More often these days the bride and groom are paying for their own marriages, and wish to do it sensibly. The excellent news is, cheap marriages do not mean you’ve got to give in on style or sentimentality. It suggests using your imagination. For example, I knew one couple who hired a cheap roller rink for the night and got married on skates to a cheesy organ playing “Here Comes the Bride.” After the promises they and their guests had a superb time skating round the rink. Too pricey for you? Maybe you might hold your marriage outside at a mate’s or relation’s yard. If there’s a pool available, you might change it into a fun marriage pool party.
Marriage theme parties may also be a creative, fun and cheap ( we do not use the word “cheap” ) way to be married. You could go to cheap craftstores to make any sort of theme marriage you would like : Western, Hawaiian, Cosmopolitan, Elvis, Star Trek, “Survivor” ( yes, that is right, a “Survivor” theme marriage. ) What alternative routes are you able to economize on your wedding? Purchase your dress secondhand. Ask your mates and family to make your food and cake for you in lieu of a marriage present. Why employ a DJ when you have an iPod or MP3 player?
If you live in California, cheap wines are simple to find. But, if you live somewhere else, there are always labels like Columbia Crest, BV Coastal and Mirassou that are great tasting and cheap. Chandon, a label from California, has good, cheap cava for around $13.99. You can always have a more costly bottle of poo reserved for the bride and groom. It’s all about concerns. Choose which components of your marriage are most critical to you and which you would like to reserve for a serious part of your financial position and which elements aren’t all that crucial to you. Maybe saving money for a place is your concern and a marriage just isn’t all that critical. In that case, run away and have a modest party later. Do what makes you most happy.
